We asked New York City–based yoga and Pilates instructor (and Health Expert Network pro) Kristin McGee, star of fitness DVDs MTV Power Yoga and the new Weight Loss Pilates, to create a cellulite-busting routine that targets the butt and thighs, the areas most prone to dimpling.

Thanks to all those days spent sitting, fat pushes through weakened spots in the connective tissue beneath skin. But rebuilding muscle tone in those trouble spots and burning excess fat can help smooth out cellulite and prevent future dimpling, McGee says.

What’s So Great About Water?

I’ve been in the cellulite reduction and body sculpting business for the past 6+ years and my staff and I have become “water pushers”.  ”Make sure to drink plenty of water today,” we say.  And the reason is because Endermologie treatments detoxify your body but in order for the toxins to actually leave the body there must be a vehicle to rid them. One of the main vehicles to eliminate the toxins is water.

It’s really challenging to convince some people to drink water. What is so bad about water? It doesn’t even have any taste. Did you know that you can be dehydrated and not even know it? When your mouth is dry and you need that soda to quench your thirst just know that you are quite dehydrated and sodas are not what you need!

Did you know that you can actually lose weight by drinking water?

I read an article written by Donald S. Robertson, MD, M.Sc. who claims that water is quite possibly the single most important catalyst in losing weight and keeping it off. He says that although most of us take it for granted, water may be the only true “magic potion” for permanent weight loss. Water suppresses the appetite and helps the body metabolize stored fat.

Dr. Robertson says there are studies that have shown that not drinking enough water will cause fat deposits to increase in size while drinking more water actually reduces the size of the fat deposits and his scientific reasoning is this…

The kidneys can’t function properly without enough water. When they don’t work to capacity, some of their load is dumped onto the liver. One of the liver’s primary functions is to metabolize stored fat into usable energy for the body. But if the liver has to do some of the kidney’s work – it can’t operate at full throttle. As a result it metabolizes less fat - meaning more fat remains stored in the body and weight loss stops.

Plus, lack of water can ultimately cause water retention, constipation, loss of muscle tone, and weight gain. The appropriate amount to drink is eight (8) ounce glasses every day. That’s about 2 quarts. And if you’re overweight, he says to add an extra glass for every 25 lbs! If you need to lose weight, here’s a great place to start. If you don’t need to lose weight but you’re thirsty all the time….drink water!
